What's new

You're on v2.16.0

v2.16.0 · Pick where to start walking

  • When you tap Walk you can now pick where to start: at the front (the bow), in the middle by the bridge, or at the back (the stern)
  • Each choice has a little picture of a ship with a glowing spot showing where you will start
  • Start at the front and you face back along the ship, so you are not staring at the rail

v2.15.0 · Stay aboard to the end

  • When you walk on a sinking ship, you stay on board the whole way now
  • If she breaks in two, you ride whichever half you are standing on. The torn edge is like a rail, so you cannot cross to the other half
  • If she sinks, you go all the way down to the sea floor with her and can keep exploring the wreck
  • When it is over, a note tells you how she did. Tap Stop walking to see the full result

v2.14.0 · Pirate ships!

  • Start a new pirate ship and build with wooden masts, sails, a captain's cabin, a ship's wheel, a figurehead and even a parrot
  • Cannons line the deck on both sides. Tap one to make it fire. Rowboats hang from davits, and a plank sticks out over the water
  • Sails make the speed: more sail means a faster ship. The drive lever is called Sails on a pirate ship
  • Try the four ready-made ships: a small sloop, the Whydah Gally, Queen Anne's Revenge and a ghostly black-sailed galleon
  • The New ship picker has five cards now, and the help tips mention pirates

v2.13.0 · Walk the sinking ship

  • Now you can walk around your ship while she sinks. The deck tilts and the sea rises around you
  • While you walk there is a new Hit with an iceberg button. Tap it and an iceberg strikes her while you stay on deck. A well-built ship may survive it
  • Start a sea trial first and tap Walk to climb aboard while she is already going down
  • If she breaks in two, the walk ends and you watch the rest, since walking on a broken ship is still to come

v2.12.0 · Jump and climb all over

  • You can jump now while you walk. Press Space, or tap the new round jump button next to the stick
  • Jump over deck chairs and benches, or land on top of them. Jump up onto a cabin, deck or bridge roof right beside you, a whole level up, with no stairs needed
  • Jump off the edge of a roof to drop down to the deck below. You still cannot jump off the ship into the sea
  • Bridge roofs and the tops of containers are walkable now, and stairs can climb up to a bridge

v2.11.0 · See which way it turns

  • When you rotate a part, a white arrow on the see-through preview shows which way it will face before you place it
  • On a touch screen, tapping Rotate now shows the preview right away on the first spot the part fits, so you can see the turn without hovering
  • Placing a part now has a Done button next to Rotate, so you can stop placing without going back to the parts drawer

v2.10.0 · Walk the decks

  • You can walk around your ship now, in first person. Tap Walk (the ship needs a deck to stand on) and look around from the deck
  • Drag on the screen to look around and use the stick to walk. On a keyboard use W, A, S and D to walk and the arrow keys to turn. Esc stops
  • Walk the decks and climb stairs up onto roofs. Stairs only go up onto the deck or cabin block they face, and you can walk back down the same way
  • Cabins, pools, funnels, masts, deck chairs and other things are in the way, so you walk around them. You cannot walk off the edge of a roof
  • The view sways gently with the ship on the waves, and it stays calm so it is easy on your eyes
  • Building is paused while you walk. Stop walking and your ship is just as you left it
  • The buttons along the bottom no longer bump into Undo and Redo on smaller screens
  • After a walk or a drive the ship comes back framed the way it was before, instead of closer up

v2.9.0 · Take the wheel

  • You can drive your ship now. Tap Drive (a ship needs an engine), choose what is out there, and set sail
  • Pick icebergs, rocks, buoys and other ships to steer around, and how many of them. Pick nothing for wide open water
  • Three views: behind the ship, from above, and from the bridge. Switch whenever you like
  • The wheel and the throttle match your kind of ship, so a liner, a cruise ship, a warship and a cargo ship each feel different
  • Bump a buoy and you just slow down. Hit an iceberg, a rock or another ship hard and she sinks, the same way as in a sea trial
  • Arrow keys or W, A, S and D steer and change the throttle. Space stops, and Esc ends the drive

v2.8.2 · A Done button for parts

  • When you pick a part on your ship, the bar at the bottom now has a Done button. Tap it to let go of the part without hunting for it in the parts drawer

v2.8.1 · A clear view of the sinking

  • When a sea trial starts, the menus and buttons tuck away so you can see the whole ship, even on a small tablet
  • The Below deck picture is a small corner thumbnail now. Tap it to make it bigger for a moment
  • After a trial, a slim bar at the bottom lets you scrub back through it and watch again without covering the ship
  • Tap Details on that bar when you want to read what happened and get tips

v2.8.0 · The long way down

  • Iceberg trials happen at night now, and the ship's lights flicker and then go out as she floods
  • A long ship like the Titanic can crack in two as her stern lifts out of the water, in slow motion. The stern falls back, stands straight up, then slides under
  • Pick Real, Break her or Hold together before you aim, to choose whether she can break
  • When she sinks, tap Follow her down to ride with her all the way to the sea floor, and look around the wreck
  • Watch again replays the whole thing, and the slider on the result card lets you jump to any moment, like the break or the lights going out
  • Turn on the speaker button to hear the creaks, the crack and the bubbles (it starts muted)

v2.7.0 · Shipshape

  • Ships look like a really nice toy now: soft shadows in the corners and a gentle shine on paint, glass and metal
  • Decks and cabins that touch join into one smooth wall with rounded corners, and windows only show on the outside
  • The hull curves at the bottom, rises at the bow and stern, and has brass-rimmed portholes and a stripe along the side
  • Funnels have rims, black tops and stripes, masts have rings and a lookout basket, and lifeboats are shaped like real boats
  • Railings are round and follow the curve of the bow and stern
  • On slower tablets the soft shadows switch off by themselves so building stays smooth

v2.6.0 · Iceberg!

  • New Below deck section in the Hull panel: tap between the hull's sections to add watertight walls, and tap again to make them taller
  • The Sea trial button now has two choices: Waves, or Iceberg. Pick Iceberg, then tap the hull where you want it to hit
  • Watch the water fill each room below deck and spill over walls that are too low, just like on the Titanic
  • She either stays afloat, or the card tells you how long she lasted and which walls to make taller
  • Titanic, Olympic and the other ready-made ships come with their walls. Try the Titanic, then try Britannic, who got taller walls afterwards

v2.5.0 · Sea trials

  • Take your ship on a sea trial: she sails into the waves and rides them out, has a close call, or capsizes
  • A top-heavy ship might be fine on a calm day but tip over in a storm, so try every sea
  • After each trial you get tips on how to make her steadier
  • Ships now lean if one side is heavier than the other, and the checklist tells you when she doesn't sit level

v2.4.1 · Sturdier shipyard

  • If a saved ship has parts that no longer fit after an update, it still opens with those parts removed, instead of not opening at all
  • Behind the scenes: new checks make sure saved ships, shared links and the 3D scene keep working as the game grows

v2.4.0 · Day and night

  • Sail by day, at sunset or at night, with stars and a moon after dark
  • Choppy seas bring some clouds, and stormy seas turn the sky grey and gloomy
  • Cabin windows light up at night: gold for first class, white for second, dimmer for third, and a cool blue for the crew
  • Bridges, portholes, deck lamps and searchlights glow too
  • New Lights parts: string lights between masts, red and green navigation lights, floodlights and underwater lights

v2.3.0 · A tidier shipyard

  • A "Ready to sail?" checklist shows what your ship still needs, and cheers when she's done
  • See how your ship measures up against the real one with side-by-side bars
  • Parts are big pictures now, in the order you build a ship, with buttons to jump to each group
  • Parts that can't go on yet are dimmed and tell you what they need, like a davit for a lifeboat
  • Paint has its own tab in the Parts panel, and the hull's length and width live with the bow and stern
  • Camera and sea buttons sit on the ocean, Delete shows up when you pick a part, and Rotate shows up while you place one
  • Save, Share and My Ships moved to the top, so the ship gets more room
  • Tap ? for tips on building, deleting and moving the camera

v2.2.0 · Famous ships

  • Start from a famous ship: Titanic, Olympic, Britannic, Carpathia or Lusitania
  • Or a modern one: Wonder of the Seas, Ocean Breeze, an Arleigh Burke destroyer, a Coast Guard cutter, the Ever Given or Little Hopper
  • Every template is an ordinary ship you can change, paint and save
  • Modern ships have stronger engines, so giant cruise and cargo ships reach about 22 knots like the real ones

v2.1.1 · What's new

  • Tap the version number to see what changed in every release

v2.1.0 · Decorations

  • Deck chairs, benches and lamps for every ship, plus Titanic-style ventilators on liners
  • Stairs that climb up the side of a block to the deck above
  • The Grand Staircase glass dome for ocean liners
  • Searchlights on the bridge and masts, a crow's nest, and a stern flag that waves
  • Wireless aerial wires strung between two masts

v2.0.0 · Ship types

  • Pick a ship type when you start: ocean liner, cruise ship, navy ship or cargo ship
  • Cruise ships: balcony cabins, pools, a waterslide, a climbing wall, enclosed lifeboats, life rafts and azipods
  • Navy ships: turning gun turrets, a radar mast, a helipad with a helicopter, and RIB boats
  • Cargo ships: stackable containers, hatch covers, a turning crane, a free-fall lifeboat and a bridge at the back
  • Each type compares your ship with a real one, like Wonder of the Seas or the Ever Given
  • A Show all parts switch lets you mix parts from every type

v1.5.0 · Search, crew beds and waves

  • Search the parts list, even with typos
  • The panel headers stay put while you scroll
  • Crew quarters, with a warning when the crew don't have enough beds
  • Calm, choppy or stormy seas: rough water rocks the ship, and top-heavy ships rock the most

v1.4.0 · Paint

  • A paint brush with 12 colours for every part and the hull
  • The version number is shown next to the title

v1.3.0 · Bows, sterns and rudders

  • Choose the bow (straight, clipper, bulbous or icebreaker) and the stern (counter, cruiser, transom or canoe)
  • A rudder, and a warning when a ship with propellers has none
  • Portholes, deck railings and an anchor on the hull
  • Cabins have windows, funnels have bands, lifeboats are rounded and davits are curved

v1.2.2 · Masts and animations

  • One mast part that goes on the bow, the stern or any deck block
  • Bigger close buttons on the side panels
  • Spinning propellers, funnel smoke, a gently rocking ship, parts that pop in, and bubbles underwater

v1.2.1 · Easier davits and bridges

  • Press and hold to delete works on the iPad
  • Davits go on a single block; no need to stack two
  • Bridges from 3 to 7 wide

v1.2.0 · Bigger ships and propellers

  • Ships up to 20 segments long
  • Large funnels on a 2×2 of deck blocks, and large lifeboats between two davits
  • A Below view under the water, and propellers that set the top speed
  • Pictures for every part, button, stat and warning

v1.1.0 · Made for the iPad

  • Make the ship wider or narrower
  • Blocks can hang off the side and build out past the hull
  • Press and hold to delete, and two-finger pan
  • Install it on the home screen and play offline

v1.0.0 · First voyage

  • Build a Titanic-style liner from deck blocks, cabins, a bridge, funnels, masts and lifeboats
  • Live stats: passengers, crew, lifeboat seats, tonnage, top speed and stability
  • Undo and redo, save to My Ships, and share a link to your ship
